Our Founder

Hi there! I’m Laura Tempesta, a sports bra expert, and the founder of Bravolution.®

Here are a few details about me:

I'm the real deal.

I confess, I have a near maniacal obsession with sports bras.  I’m the only American with a Master’s degree in Lingerie Design, and the only person in the world with a custom-designed degree to study the engineering, design, performance and innovation of Sports Bras.  In my previous job, I was Nike’s Sports Bra Innovation Director.  Bottom line: I’m a world-renowned sports bra expert here to give you credible advice.

I’m an inventor, a maker and a baker.

I’m the inventor of 7 separate bra patents and 1 production technology. I grew up in a home with a wood shop and a sewing room and, from a young age, I frequented and tinkered with both. Oh, and I make a mean blueberry pie.

I’m ambidextrous.

Sometimes I draw with both hands at the same time.

In 5th grade, my gym teacher broke my arm.

It’s a long story, but let’s just say my relationship with athletics got off to a rocky start and went downhill from there. My two lowest grades in high school were in the two required P.E. classes.  At least a thousand times I said, “I hate sports.” But then, something happened…

I spent 2 years unable to walk.

When I turned 31, I was diagnosed with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) after a knee surgery. RSD is chronic pain condition so intense, it’s ranked higher than natural childbirth on the McGill Pain Index. Eventually, my leg became so stiff and painful that I lost my ability to walk. It took ten years of physical therapy to recover completely. That experience instilled in me a profound appreciation for the gift of movement. I know what it’s like to want to be active but have a part of your body prevent it. So, when I kept meeting women who wanted to run but couldn’t due to pain from their breasts and inadequate sports bra, I got fired up--because it’s a solvable problem that isn’t getting enough attention from current manufacturers. I had the knowledge, the expertise and, after experiencing my own fight for pain-free movement, the motivation to fix this problem for women everywhere.

I tell it like it is.

Calling out B.S. is part of my D.N.A.  I’m an independent thinker and disrupter.  And, when necessary, I’m not afraid to break the rules.  That type of honesty in thought and action requires courage and isn’t always easy, especially in a male-dominated industry like sportswear.  But I absolutely believe positive change can’t happen without it.

I’m a nerd.

Things I geek out on: Sports Bras (obvs), Statistics (yep), Bunnies (they’re just so darn cute)

I don’t watch movies on long flights.  I take apart bras and analyze the pieces. (See “nerd” above.)

Thankfully the TSA doesn’t consider a seam ripper a weapon.

I believe kindness is more badass than cruelty.

Life is short.  Don’t be a jerk.

I really do want to change the world…

…one poorly fitting sports bra at a time. This is my calling, my vocation and my passion.
